Phillip Tritthart

Your Friends Call you?

Titti! My now 14 y.o. brother couldn’t pronounce “Phillip” when he was younger. One day in primary school he came into my classroom after school shouting “There’s Titti!” and ever since then my friends called me “Titti”.

Age:

22

Profession:

Puh, hard one (laughing)! I’d say part time shaper, part time student and part time E-Commerce nerd.

HOW/WHERE CAN PEOPLE CONTACT/FIND YOU?

You can find me “On the Gram” @eternalfriedays or just knock on my workshop door.

FAVORITE QUOTE:

“Feel the fear and do it anyway.”, I feel like that one really fits me well - professionally as well as in my personal life.

ROLE MODEL(S):

There are tons of people I look up to and who inspire me. In the Shaping/Surfing space I`d say it’s guys like Ryan Lovelace, Ryan Burch or the “Critterstoyco” dudes. They all have a really unique approach to shaping and surfing in general. They distance themselves from modern days high performance shapes and instead focus more on “retro” shapes or more experimental stuff such as Asyms or finless boards. I’m inspired by people who find their own ways of success in a non-traditional way.

WHAT MAKES YOU CREATIVE IN YOUR OPINION?

As much as I hate to admit it, Instagram has definitely been a big source of inspiration for me, especially when starting out.
I like to combine bits and pieces I find online or by talking with other shapers with my own ideas I get when I’m surfing my boards, so far that approach has been working out great for me.  As I gained more and more experience I started incorporating more of my own ideas into my shapes.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT TO SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW YOU?

I’d say, as with most big challenges I try to tackle, I start by looking what’s working for others. I then try to take those parts that fit my style of working best and build a foundation. From there on I adapt my processes as I become more familiar with the craft until I feel comfortable with what I’m doing. The point at which I start feeling comfort is also the one at which I start looking for new ideas and challenges, it’s basically a never stopping circuit.

WHAT GOALS DO YOU HAVE? (PROFESSIONALLY TALKING, OF COURSE!)

(Laughs) I want to be a regular feature on Boardporns Instagram page, that’s definitely my main goal. Another one I once set is to see one of my boards in a Blue Tomato catalogue. But mainly I just want to get better at what I do, keep learning new techniques, trying new stuff and seeing happy faces when I hand over a new surfboard.

ARE YOU EXCITED OR WORRIED ABOUT THE FUTURE?

I’m definitely excited but at the same time worried.  There’s more and more tension arising in our world, even in such peaceful activities as surfing. I feel like we definitely have to slow down our lives again, we as a society as well as the planet we live on could benefit immensely from that little change alone.

!ALERT! random questions ahead…

FAVOURITE SONG AT THE MOMENT?

“Airplane Lesson” from Stereoclip, I’m definitely a sucker for Stereoclip in general ;)

ALL-TIME FAVOURITE MOVIE/TV-SERIES?

Prison Break & Stab in the dark

IMAGINE, YOU ARE MOVING TO A FOREIGN COUNTRY BUT CAN ONLY BRING ONE BACKPACK… WHAT IS INSIDE?

That‘s easy: Camera, my MacBook for working, two boardshorts, some underwear, some shirts, NoBite (Otherwise I would be eaten alive by those beasts) and since I can’t fit a surfboard into my bag I would bring some of my most important shaping tools.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL ALWAYS BE IN FASHION NO MATTER WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE?

Analog photography, Super 8 film clips, retro surfboard shapes & coffee

The last two questions!

WHY DO YOU THINK YOU WERE BORN?

That’s a question I will start tackling when I lock myself in my shaping bay for some new boards  next weekend!

IF YOU COULD, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT BOORO.XYZ?

I would try to better communicate BOORO’s USPs and maybe think about starting to work with athletes and influencers more.
